Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's water polo team continued their season with Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference play in matchups against George Washington and Bucknell. The Lakers fell in both games, 18-9 and 26-12.
Game One
In the first quarter,
Luke Larson opened the scoring for the Lakers with a goal. The Revolutionaries opened up with a 4-1 lead, until
Keller Sens scored for the Lakers, ending the first 4-2.
In the second quarter, George Washington scored five more goals. Larson tallied his second goal of the game, while Asher Jones got on the board for the Lakers, trailing 9-4 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Mercyhurst continued to battle with George Washington. The Lakers scored two goals within the last two minutes of play, coming from an advantage goal by Aiden Botterill and from Jones, scoring his second goal of the game.
End of fourth quarter, the Lakers tallied three more goals, coming from Jones, Botterill and Caden Stover. However, the Revolutionaries held on to their lead, to secure its 18-9 victory.
Game Two
In the first quarter, the first goal of the game belong to the Lakers thanks to Botterill. The Bisons then went on a 7-0 run until it was broken by another goal by Botterill. Bucknell scored one more before the quarter ended, leading 8-2.
Within the first minute of the second quarter, the Lakers and the Bisons both scored a goal. Ben Gavran scored for Mercyhurst. Bucknell went on to score seven more goals while Mercyhurst scored three more. The three for the Lakers came from two goals by Jones, following a goal from Danilo Vujovic
In the third quarter, the Lakers outscored the Bisons 3-2. Two additional goals from Jones give him yet another hat trick, and a goal from Stover.
In the fourth quarter, the Lakers opened up the scoring with a goal from Larson. They proceeded to score two more goals, both coming from Vujovic, giving him a hat trick. Bucknell closed out the game outscoring the Lakers 8-3, ultimately winning 26-12.
The Lakers will return to action on the road in a rematch against Bucknell Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
