Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Volleyball host Canisius for an early season non-conference matchup. After taking set one, the Lakers couldn't keep that momentum going as Canisius took the next three sets to take the match 3-1.
How it Happened
Set one was all Canisius early and all Lakers late. After the Griffins jumped out to an early 7-1 lead, the Lakers battled their way back on the serve of Andrea Zaric. Three straight service aces by Zaric gave the Lakers a 14-11 lead. The Lakers started to pull away in set one as Alyssa Krause picked up an ace, and Kaitlin Murphy picked up a kill. The Griffins got it to within four, but the Lakers took set one 25-20. The Griffins were able to win the next three sets to take the match 3-1. Set two was back and forth until the very end. Kelsie Gaiter-Davis finished set two with three service aces. In set three, both sides had short runs that gave them the lead, but both sides would match the others run with one of their own. Late in the set, Brice Hansen picked up a kill to bring the Lakers to within one. The Griffins scored four of the next five points to take the set 25-21. The Griffins ran away with set three 25-13. Paige Miller picked up three kills, while Abby Miller picked up a kill of her own.
