New York, NY.- Mercyhurst traveled for this first full weekend of Division I Water Polo action. The Lakers were unable to grab a win, but they'll be looking to build off of their performances as they continue in their first season at the Division I level.
How it Happened
The Lakers started the weekend with a match against Fordham. Mercyhurst dropped the match 26-9, but they saw two players record a hat trick in the matchup against No. 9 Fordham.
Asher Jones put points on the board in the second, third and fourth period and
Ben Gavran recorded points in the first, third and fourth period.
Mercyhurst followed their match against Fordham up with a game against No. 17 Navy. The Lakers dropped the match 18-7. But they saw points come from Gavran, Keller Sans,
Nate Lutz,
Owen Hardner and Alessio Samperdro. Sans and Sampedro each had two.
They finished the weekend with a 20-5 loss to Bucknell as they continue to adapt to Division I play. Jones, Sampedro, Gavran and
Petar Vujovic scored in the matchup for the Lakers, but the inability for the Lakers to get the offense going held them back in the weekend finale.
Next Game
The Lakers take a weekend off before traveling to Emmitsburg, MD for weekend slate of games. The next time they'll be in action is Saturday, October 12
th against Mount St. Mary's at 12:00 p.m.
