Mercyhurst Plays Four Game Slate

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Cassville, WV.- The Lakers traveled to West Virginia for a four-game slate this weekend. They went 1-3 on the weekend, but their 10-9 win over the University of Toronto was their first win as a Division I team.
 
How it Happened
Mercyhurst faced off with John Hopkins for the second time this season. The Blue Jays once again walked away with the win, this time in 16-7 decision. Junior Owen Hardner led the Lakers with two goals. But the Blue Jays' five goal second period propelled them to the win. Andrew Lee had a hat trick for John Hopkins.
 
In their second game of the weekend, the Lakers grabbed their first Division I win ever over the University of Toronto. The Lakers narrowly escaped with a 10-9 victory. Freshman Petar Vujovic scored four goals in the match that came down to the wire.
 
The Lakers started out Sunday with a match against Salem University. Although the Lakers outshot Salem 39-38, the Tigers were able to make the most of their opportunities in a 17-6 win. Junior Marko Zivojinovic, Freshman Ivan Petkovski and Freshman Danko Kesic eached scored four goals for Salem. Vujovic led the Lakers with a pair of goals in the losing effort.
 
Mercyhurst finished the weekend with a match against Mount St. Mary's. Asher Jones put up a weekend high five goals in the match, but The Mount still pulled out a 17-10 win. Mount St. Mary's had ten different players score in their win.
 
Highlights
Vujovic, Jones and Hardner continue to show up for the Lakers as they try to find their footing. Vujovic scored a team-high eight goals in four games. The Lakers grabbed their first win as Division I team and they'll look to build off of it as they come back home for a four-game slate next weekend.
 
Next Game
The Lakers return home to host multiple teams. Next weekend, the Lakers take on Washington & Jefferson, Wheaton College, Connecticut College and Penn State Behrend. The action starts Saturday, September 21st at 9:30 a.m.
