Akron, OH. - The Mercyhurst Volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Akron Zips on Tuesday night.
How it Happened
The Zips got off to a fast start in set one, taking an 11-2 lead. Lilliana Mook picked up back-to-back kills to put a halt to the Zips momentum. The Zips went on a short 4-0 spurt to extend their lead to 18-7. An Andrea Zaric kill put an end to the Zips run and got the Lakers the serve back. The Zips outscored the Lakers 6-4 down the stretch in set one and came away with a 25-12 win.
Early in set two, Lilliana Mook picked up a kill to make it 6-4 in favor of the Zips. The Zips began to pull away in set two as they took an 18-9 lead. Kaitlin Murphy got on the score sheet with a kill of her own, putting an end to the Zips run. The Zips ended set two on a 7-2 run, taking set two 25-12.
The Lakers couldn't get much going in set three as the Zips began to pull away early. Jessica Wilson and Andrea Zaric each picked up kills that kept the Lakers in it early. The Zips outscored the Lakers 12-1 to end set three and pick up a 25-11 win.

Lilliana Mook led the Lakers in kills with five, and Alia Mastromatteo led the Lakers in assists with six and digs with nine.

The Lakers will return to the court next Tuesday when they travel to Duquesne University. Start time for the match is set for 6 PM in Pittsburgh.
