The Lakers managed 29 kills and 36 digs during the match, while Duquesne recorded a higher attack percentage and secured the win.

The Lakers started strong in the opening set with Roslyn Guerra leading the offensive effort. Guerra's early kills, facilitated by Aliyah Angelici, helped the team build a narrow lead. Mia Mattingly and Ava Carney contributed with timely kills, while Julia Shepherd and Mattingly combined for a block that further extended the advantage to 5-2.

Despite their efforts, Duquesne responded, capitalizing on several attack errors and service errors. Londyn Stone and Simone Searles were instrumental in Duquesne's comeback, tying the score at 14-14. Duquesne then pulled ahead, with key plays from Chloe Wilmot, and carried its momentum to close out the set with a 25-21 victory.

The second set saw the Lakers initially building momentum with a combination of kills from Guerra and Mattingly, pushing the score to 6-4. Despite a service ace by Mattingly and a key block from Shepherd and Mattingly, the team faced challenges with errors that allowed Duquesne to regain the lead.

Mercyhurst continued to battle, leveling the score multiple times with contributions from Trinity Tatupu and Shepherd. However, Duquesne capitalized on a series of kills and service aces to shift the momentum in their favor. The set concluded with Duquesne closing strong, securing a 25-20 advantage over the Lakers.

The Lakers faced a challenging third set as Duquesne surged ahead early with a series of kills, taking a 3-0 lead. Guerra briefly interrupted Duquesne's run with a kill, but the Dukes quickly regained control. Despite efforts from Shepherd and Carney adding points, Duquesne maintained its momentum.

Later in the set, Mercyhurst attempted to rally as Mattingly and Sarina Notaro contributed with a kill and a service ace, respectively, narrowing the gap slightly. However, Duquesne's consistent offensive pressure proved decisive. The set concluded with Duquesne extending its lead and closing out with a 25-11 score.

Guerra led the Lakers with 10 kills, finishing with a total of 10 points. Alyssa Krause contributed significantly by recording 14 assists and collecting eight digs. Shepherd added seven kills and two block assists, accumulating eight points. Mattingly made an impact with two service aces and two block assists, finishing with seven points.

Looking ahead, the Lakers return home to Erie to host the Mercyhurst Invitational, presented by Scott Enterprises, Official Lodging Parter of Mercyhurst Athletics. On Friday, Sept. 4, the Lakers will play Morehead State and Siena. The following day, the Lakers will play Cleveland State.
