Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Volleyball team fell in three sets to Duquense on Tuesday night. 

How it Happened 

In set number one, the Lakers trailed 3-2 early, but a kill by Paige Miller sparked a quick 3-0 for the Lakers and they took a 5-3 lead.  After a run by the Dukes, they took a 12-8 lead.  A few points later, Andrea Zaric picked up a kill to make it 18-14 in favor of the Dukes.  The Dukes were able to hold off the Lakers and pick up a 25-18. 

The Dukes took an early 6-3 lead in set two, but a kill by Andrea Zaric sparked a 4-0 run that gave the Lakers a 7-6 lead.  After the Dukes took a 12-9 lead, the Lakers went on a 4-0 run, capped off by an Alia Mastromatteo ace, that gave the Lakers a 13-12 lead.  Later in the set, Paige Miller picked up a kill to keep the Lakers in the lead, but the Dukes closed the set on a 6-3 run and took set two 25-23. 

In set three, the Dukes took an early 5-0 lead, before Paige Miller's kill ended that run.  The Dukes began to run away with the set as they took a commanding 18-6 lead.  The Dukes took set three 25-11.   

Paige Miller led the Lakers in kills with eight.   

Alia Mastromatteo led the Lakers in aces with three, assists with ten, and digs with six.

The Lakers will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Niagara.  Start time for that match is set for 6 PM.
