Lakers Ready for Battle with Syracuse

8/24/2024 9:00:00 AM

Carpe D1em:
The Lakers officially made their Division I debut last week when they kicked off the season with trips to Pittsburgh to face to Duquesne and to Niagara Falls to play Niagara. Mercyhurst dropped their first Division I match against Duquesne 6-2, but Freshmen Rosie Bandura and Annaliese Black scored their first collegiate goals. The Lakers also fell in their matchup against Niagara, but Senior Kate Costantini and Graduate Student Chelsea Radicia combined to make 11 saves in the 2-0 loss.

Lakers Leaders:
Bandura and Black still have the lone goals of the 2024 season, but the offense is looking to break through. They'll lean on one of last season's leading goal scorers, Karah Van Horn, as they try to pick up their offensive productivity. Costantini and Radicia will aim to build off of their strong performance as the Lakers continue to search for their first win in Division I play.

Scouting Syracuse:
Mercyhurst will travel to Syracuse, NY. this Sunday where they'll take on Syracuse in regular season action for the first ever time. Syracuse opened their season against UMass on September 15th with a 2-0 victory. The Orange registered just four shots but were able to make two count. Ava Uribe and Ashley Rauch each scored in the victory for Syracuse. They followed up their season opening victory with a 1-1 tie against Maine. Iba Oching buried the tying goal in the 69th minute.

Next Game:
The Lakers take on the Orange at 1:00 p.m. this Sunday, August 25th.  All the action can be caught on ACC Network Extra.
