Lakers Season Ends in Loss to Pace

Pleasantville, NY. - The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Pace University for the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.  The Setters used a big fourth quarter to hand the Lakers a 16-10 loss, ending their spectacular season.  

The Lakers conclude their season with a 13-5 record overall and an 8-0 record in the GMAC. The Lakers had a special season, winning the GMAC Regular Season title along with the GMAC Tournament title.  

How it Happened 

The Setters got on the board first in this matchup, but the Lakers matched it with a goal by Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre. The rest of the first quarter was high scoring. The Lakers finished the first quarter with five goals, while the Setters finished with three. Luke Ingianni scored the goal that gave the Lakers a two-goal lead after one quarter of play.  

The second quarter was off to a slower start until David Fiorini found the back of the net, giving the Lakers a 6-3 lead. The Setters won the face-off and scored seconds later, starting a 3-0 run to tie the game at six. Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre found the back of the net for the second time in the game, giving the Lakers a 7-6 lead at halftime.  

The lone goal for the Lakers in the third quarter was scored by Colin Tardif. The Setters scored four times in the quarter, giving them a 10-8 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  

Luke Ingianni scored his second goal of the game to cut the deficit to one. The Setters went on a 5-0 run to expand the lead to 15-9. Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre solidified his hat-trick with a goal to make it 15-10. The Setters got one more goal to push the lead back to six and that's how the game would end. 

Highlights 

Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre scored three times in the loss. 

Luke Ingianni scored twice on five shots. 

Andrew Vetter won seven face-offs and picked up five ground balls. 

Brett Olney made seven saves and Tyler Moritzen made four.
