The American Baseball Coaches Association released their all-region honorees for the 2024 season with the Lakers having two players be named to the list. Chris Juchno earns his second all-region honor of the year while Corbin Foy also collects his second with the pair of Lakers finding their way onto the Atlantic Second Team.
Juchno adds onto an already impressive list of accolades for the year as he was named to his second All-PSAC team earlier with it being his first nod as a member of the First Team before his inclusion as a NCBWA Second Team selection. The Laker outfielder was one of the more improved players on the diamond in the conference this year with him hitting for a .331/.438/.632 triple slash line for an OPS of 1.070, the second-best on the team. He led the way in home runs (9) and extra base hits (21) with many of those coming in the final few weeks of the season. Since April 9th, Juchno has recorded 14 extra base hits, hitting five home runs and nine doubles in that time. Four of those two baggers came in game three of the team's series against Pitt-Johnstown on April 21st while three of his home runs came in the series final against Cal (Pa.) on the 27th, making him a hitter who can get hot at any moment.Â
For his career, Juchno has hit for a .276 batting average with 117 hits to his line to go along with 29 home runs, 21 doubles, and 91 RBIs, putting him high on the all-time records lists for hitters. His 54 extra base hits for his career are the most among all active players with his 29 home runs being the most while his 117 hits and 91 RBIs coming behind only his fellow outfielder Luke Jackson. With after his most successful campaign yet, Juchno will look to take another step forward in 2025 in hopes of solidifying himself as one of the best ever in a Laker uniform.
Foy was one of the better pitchers in the region all season long, helping him be named to his first all-conference team of his career as a member of the Second Team in early May and now has even more to show with him earning all-region honors as well. He worked his way to a record of 5-1 with an ERA of 1.94 in 51.0 innings of work while fanning 63 batters with each of those being the best on the team. He was a consistent strikeout artist with five or more Ks in eight of his 11 appearances, doing so in five straight outings with a career-high 10 coming against Charleston on the 24th of February. His numbers were not only some of the best on the team, but also the conference, as his ERA and batting average against were second in the PSAC.Â
For his career, Foy holds an ERA of 3.18 across 110.1 innings of work in 35 games, starting in 18 of them. He has been more than capable to taking care of batters on his own with 134 Ks to his ledger for a K% of 10.9 over the course of his time in a Laker uniform. No matter the role he has been asked to play for the team he has been able to fill it. Foy made his presence felt in his sophomore season out of the bullpen as one of the more reliable arms, pitching in 18.1 innings across 12 games with an ERA of 1.96 to go along with 30 strikeouts. That effort to go along with his work this past season shows that the Niles, Oh. native is more than capable of having success no matter his role like so many Mercyhurst hurlers before him.
