Cherry Hill, NJ - Mercyhurst rowing finished out their time at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Saturday afternoon with the team putting together a strong showing. After having the kind of day they wanted yesterday, the Lakers showed no signs of slowing down with six podium finishes to their ledger including two gold medals.

How it Happened

The men's twos comprised of Anthony DePinto and Cole Bardeschewski were the first to compete with the team looking to win the Bob Neggard Cup. Despite a strong effort from the duo, they were not quite able to come away with the win, but still managed to come away with third with a time of 7:47.776. Up next was the men's lightweight fours who ended up coming away with the win in the Grand Final, claiming the James J. Lynch Trophy with their time of 6:39.976, coming in 11 seconds ahead of MIT who claimed silver and 27 seconds in front of West Ontario who grabbed third.

The women's fours were next in the water with the team coming in third in their Grand Final, coming behind only Tampa and Embry-Riddle with a time of 8:12.855. They were followed by the men's varsity fours who looked to grab the Thomas A. Curran Cup in the Grand Final, but came up just short. The team found themselves in a tight race with Drexel, battling back-and-forth for the lead with the Dragons able to edge Mercyhurst out by less than a second to claim the win.

The men's lightweight eights ended up following suit with a silver finish in their Grand Final against MIT for the Thomas W Loschiavo Trophy with a time of 6:37.591 with the women's eights rounding out the day for the Lakers. The women competed for the Backe Trophy and were able to come away with the win in convincing fashion to put a bow on another stellar outing for Mercyhurst. In the three-boat race, the Lakers came way with a time of 7:13.738 which was good enough for first in front of Rollins who grabbed second while Jefferson claimed third.

What's Next

The men now eye the IRA Championships with the team set to make the trip to West Windsor, NJ, with competition set to begin on May 31st with a champion being crowd on June 2nd. The women now look to hear their names called in the NCAA Selection Show which is set for Tuesday, May 21st. If the team ends up being named, they'll head for Bethel, Oh. on May 31st through the 2nd of June in hopes of claiming their second title in three years.
