Cherry Hill, NJ - Mercyhurst started their final regular season contest of the year on Saturday in the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta with the teams able to find success across the board. The Lakers were able to walk away with two first place finishes on the day to go along with three second-place efforts to put them in a favorable position heading into day two of the event, looking to bring home more hardware.
How it Happened
Men's twos were first in the water with Cole Bardeschewski and Anthony DePinto coming in fourth in their race with a time of 8:35.485 with Oklahoma City, Stetson, and Clarkson taking the top three spots. Up next was the men's varsity fours who ended up coming in second in their race. The team fought hard alongside Drexel for most of the race, but the Dragons were able to pull away with the Lakers coming in right behind with a time of 7:31.755.
Men's lightweight fours were the next crew to hit the water with the team able to come away with first in their time trial. It was a dominant effort from the Lakers in the race, coming away with a time of 7:06.615 with MIT and Western Ontario rounded out the top three. The women's fours were next to race, coming in third in their contest just behind Emery-Riddle and Tampa with a time of 8:59.921.
The men's lightweight eights raced against MIT in their time trial with the Lakers taking second, just under 12 seconds behind their counterpart with a time of 6:41.647. Women's eights were up next with the first race of the afternoon with the team coming away with first place. The Lakers were able to get off to a fast start and never looked back from there, crossing with a time of 7:45.849 while Jefferson came in behind with Rollins rounding out the top three.
In the men's twos semifinals DePinto and Bardeschewski came away with second this time around, coming in with a time of 8:27.678. They were followed by the women's fours who earn third in their semifinals, coming in eight seconds and chance behind first place Tampa with a time of 9:13.792 to end the day for the Lakers.
What's Next
Mercyhurst returns tomorrow for their final day or racing with five crews in action. The men's lightweight fours kick things off as they look to hoist the James J Lynch Trophy with women's fours to follow in the Grand Final. Up next will be the men's varsity fours in lane four of a six-boat bout for the Thomas A Curran Cup while men's lightweight eights compete for the Thomas W Loschiavo Trophy and the women's eights the Backe Trophy to close things out.
