Tiffin, OH- The Mercyhurst Stunt team underwent their first day of the GMAC Championship today. The Lakers won their first-ever postseason game with a dominant win over Ursuline College by a score of 18-1. Later in the day, Mercyhurst fell to #1 seeded Trevecca Nazarene by a score of 5-20.
How it Happened:
Game 1
The Lakers had a strong start in the first quarter. Mercyhurst won a point in every round of partner stunts, leading the score 4-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the first round of the second quarter, Ursuline stole a point to make the score 4-1. Mercyhurst fought back and scored the next two points of the quarter, making the score 6-1 going into halftime.
Mercyhurst capitalized on their lead in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling. The Lakers were awarded a point in every round, and they headed into the last quarter leading 10-1.
The Lakers ran away with the lead as the combined routines began in the fourth quarter. They earned 8 points and the Arrows could not hold on. Mercyhurst prevailed, winning the game with a final score of 18-1.
Game 2
Trevecca Nazarene won the toss and took a strong lead early in the first quarter. They earned a point in all four rounds of partner stunts, making the score 0-4 going into the second quarter.
As pyramids and tosses got underway, Trevecca Nazarene won the first point of the second quarter. Coming into the second round, Mercyhurst found the scoreboard to make the score 1-5. After two more rounds, Trevecca Nazarene earned two more points to make the score 1-7 going into halftime.
The third quarter looked very similar to the first, as Trevecca Nazarene swept the quarter again to make the score 1-11 going into the final quarter of the game.
Mercyhurst was not ready to surrender as they entered the last quarter for combined routines. They were awarded one more point as Trevecca Nazarene earned two to make the score 2-13. This trend continued throughout the next few rounds as the Lakers scored three more points and the Trojans scored six more points to end the game with a final score of 5-20.

Mercyhurst will continue in the GMAC Championship tomorrow, March 29, to rematch Ursuline College at 6:15 PM. If they defeat Ursuline, they will go on to play Trevecca Nazarene again at 8:45 PM.
