Lexington, KY– Mercyhurst Stunt is set to compete in their first-ever Mid-America West Conference Championship this weekend. The Lakers will travel to Lexington, KY, to take on Missouri State University in the first round of the tournament. The action kicks off on Friday, April 4th at 12:00 PM.
Laker Outlook
The Lakers head into the conference championship weekend with a 12-10 overall record and a 4-4 conference record, after a mixed performance last weekend in Nashville. Mercyhurst fell to California Baptist University and Hope International University, but they made a strong statement by defeating both of their conference opponents. The Lakers secured a 19-5 victory over the University of Central Arkansas and held off Missouri State in a thrilling 16-14 match.
Head Coach Ruthanne Oakes is optimistic as the Lakers prepare for their conference tournament debut. "We are excited about the weekend ahead! This weekend will be the determining factor for us to go to nationals. The top four DI teams go to nationals and right now we are sitting in the #4 spot. Last weekend we had a close game with Missouri State, they bumped up to the #5 spot and they are our first opponent this weekend. We need to go into this weekend confident in what we have and ready for a good close game. The team is excited about the possibility of making nationals this year!"
With their sights set on securing a spot at nationals, the Lakers will rely on their strong teamwork and determination to take down Missouri State and advance further in the tournament.
