Lexington, KY – Mercyhurst Stunt had a competitive weekend at the Mid-America West Conference Championship Tournament. The Lakers had strong wins against Missouri State twice and Northern Kentucky but fell short against the University of Kentucky and UT Martin.
How it Happened
Mercyhurst kicked off the tournament with an exciting 15-10 victory over Missouri State University. The Lakers came out aggressive, leading the game from start to finish. In their second game of the day, Mercyhurst faced a tough challenge from the University of Kentucky. The Wildcats proved to be too strong, shutting out the Lakers 24-0. The Lakers bounced back in their next match against Northern Kentucky University, delivering a dominant 22-0 victory. Mercyhurst was in control throughout the entire game, sealing the win and giving NKU no chance.
On day two, Mercyhurst squared off against Missouri State again and this time came away with a more commanding 20-11 victory. The Lakers improved upon their first performance, increasing their offensive output and gaining confidence as they went further into the tournament. In the quarterfinals, Mercyhurst faced UT Martin in a close and hard-fought battle. Despite their best efforts, the Lakers fell short, falling 16-12. The game was neck-and-neck throughout, but they could not hold on as the defeat ended their tournament run.
Chloe Johnson was a standout performer throughout the tournament, earning First Team All-Conference honors for her exceptional play. She was a key contributor, helping the Lakers stay competitive in every match.
