Box Score Cambridge, Ma. - Mercyhurst women's water polo finished out their weekend with just one game on the docket for Sunday as they took on La Salle for the third time this season. The Lakers hoped to get some revenge on the Explorers after suffering losses in each of the first two games, but were unable to do so in the 12-5 defeat.
How it Happened
La Salle came out firing on all cylinders as they managed to jump out in front 4-0 at the end of the first period. It was not any one player doing all the heavy lifting for the Explorers in the first eight minutes of the contest as four different players scored on their way to the first period advantage.
Mercyhurst ended up making some good adjustments in the second quarter to help them play their counterpart closer going into the halftime break. The defense tightened up and did not allow as many easy opportunities in the middle of the pool while managing to score twice. One of those Laker goals came courtesy of freshman Freya Green while Allie Dombkowski had the other, making it a 6-2 game going into halftime.
Dombkowski continued his strong play whenever the two teams got back in the water as she ended up with a pair of scores in the third period while netting another in the fourth. Her efforts, though, were not enough in the second half to bring her team back with the lead being seven in the end for La Salle.
Highlights
Allie Dombkowski had one of her better performances so far this season with four goals to her line in the game. The native of Erie, Pa. scored in three different frames with a high of two coming in the third.
Next Game
The Lakers take some time off before their next matchup as they are not scheduled to play again until March 16th when they go on the road to Grove City to see the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m.
