Mercyhurst Grabs a Pair of Wins in Weekend Set

Erie, Pa.- The Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo team had their first perfect weekend just one week before the 2024 season concludes. The Lakers grabbed an 11-6 win against Washington & Jefferson before they beat Penn State Behrend 13-8.
 
How it Happened:
Mercyhurst saw themselves in a 3-3 battle at the end of the first quarter with W&J. Ben Gavran scored back-to-back goals in order to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead before Presidents tied it back up. Each team only mustered one goal in the second period, and they entered half deadlocked at four. In the second half, the Lakers scored seven unanswered goals. Asher Jones netted two of them. The Lakers sealed an 11-6 victory as they grabbed their second win in their past five games.
 
Mercyhurst then played spoiler on Penn State Behrend's Senior Day. Tony Golin and Alex Gyde split time in net and accounted for 20 saves. Golin had eight saves in the matchup, while Gyde tallied 12. The Lakers jumped out to a 4-1 lead and never looked back. Gavran scored a team high five goals and Owen Hardner scored four as the Lakers dominated in their final game in Erie in 2024.
 
Next Game:
The season wraps up next weekend as Mercyhurst travels to New York to take on Wagner and Fordham. Action starts at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8th.
