Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team have been preparing for a home matchup this Thursday against the Saint Francis University Red Flash. Both teams are within the top four of the NEC men's soccer rankings. They are also undefeated in conference play and have each scored 14 goals this season. This is a matchup destined to provide entertainment and potentially shake up the conference standings.
Lakers Run of Form
Mercyhurst is currently 5-5 on the season. They are coming off of two victories in their first Northeast Conference matchups. They beat Central Connecticut State University 2-1 in electric, come-from-behind style last Thursday. This past Sunday, they beat Chicago State University 4-0 in a strong offensive performance where they outshot their opponent 17-1. This was the Lakers third shutout of the season. The Lakers will look to senior captain
Dylan Sumner to create chances going forward as he leads the team with three goals and five assists this season. Sumner is coming off a week where he scored the game winner versus Central Connecticut State, accounted for all four goals against Chicago state, and was named NEC men's soccer player of the week.
Scouting the Red Flash
Saint Francis University is currently 3-4-2 this season. Like the Lakers, they are undefeated in their first two NEC matchups. They beat Stonehill College 2-0 on Sunday, September 29th.
