Erie, Pa.- The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer first season at the Division I level is quickly winding down and through their first 15 games there's been some growing pains. But with just four games left, the Lakers are looking to finish strong. That task begins this Sunday in Dover, De. where they'll take on Delaware State.
Continuing to Build:
Mercyhurst was held scoreless in back-to-back games as they've slid a little bit. The Lakers have lost three of their last four and scored just one goal in that time period. But they'll be looking to get back on track and they'll be leaning on playmakers, Graduate Student
Emily Mijares, Sophomore Maddie Sievering and Senior
Karah Van Horn.
Lakers Leaders:
Mijares and Van Horn have both scored three goals this season, and Sophomore
Camille Bultel has put two in the back of the net. Through 15 games, Sievering still leads the Lakers with four assists. Van Horn and Graduate Student
Alyssa Poleski are the only two players to have started every game this season. Poleski has racked up an impressive 1,177 minutes on the pitch in 2024 so far. It's been a mix of Senior
Kate Costantini and Graduate Student
Chelsea Radicia in net throughout the past couple weeks. Each have been named NEC Prime Performers this season. Radicia leads the Lakers with 84 saves this season.
Scouting Delaware State:
Delaware State has complied a 0-14-1 record to this point in the season. The Hornets have scored just three goals in the campaign. Nicole Cargill, Trinity Surowiec and Nileigha Williams have accounted for one goal each. Their goals are the only three they've put on the board this season. On Thursday, the Hornets dropped a match to LIU 4-0 as they continue to search for their first win. The Lakers will look to keep them out of the win category.
Next Game:
Mercyhurst takes on Delaware State at 12:30 p.m. this Sunday, October 20
th. The action can all be caught on NEC Front Row.
