Men’s Soccer Prepares for Intrastate Matchup with Temple

10/14/2024 12:46:00 PM

Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team will travel to Philadelphia this Tuesday to face the Temple University Owls. After traveling all over the country for their first nine matches, they will play their third consecutive match in Pennsylvania.

Lakers Run of Form
The Lakers are currently 6-5 on the season and 3-0 in NEC Conference play. They have won their last three matches in a row for the second time this season. They have outscored their opponents 9 to 1 in this winning stretch. Their most recent match was a 3-0 home win against the Saint Francis University Red Flash. Dylan Sumner scored a hat trick in that win and has accounted for eight of the last nine Laker goals. He will be a key player in Tuesday's contest against a Temple side who has conceded 17 goals this season. Defensively, players such as Kyle Halehale and Danilo Abayo will be important as the Lakers have recorded four shutouts this season.

Scouting the Owls
The Owls are currently 2-6-4 on the season and 0-2-2 in American Athletic Conference play. They are coming off of a 0-0 draw to the University of Memphis. Their last win was against Akron University on September 14th where they won 1-0. Goals have been hard to come by for Temple as they have only scored six goals all season. However, the Owls have interestingly had different goal scorers for all of their goals. They will look to senior forward Xavier Rimpel for goals in this upcoming match. Rimpel has a goal and two assists this season.
