Box Score 3 Emmitsburg, Md.- The Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo team went back on the road for four matchups this weekend. The Lakers were unable to muster their first Division I conference victory, but there were some positive takeaways from the weekend's action.
How it Happened
They started the weekend off with a game against Mount St. Mary's. This was their second time seeing them this season. In the game, Mount St. Mary's seemed to be impossible to stop on the offensive end. The Lakers dropped the matchup 19-10 but saw some encouraging play from a couple of their consistent playmakers. Sophomore
Asher Jones scored four goals and freshman
Alessio Sampedro recorded a hat trick of his own in the losing effort.
Later that day, the Lakers battled George Washington in a matchup that ended 21-11, with Mercyhurst on the losing end. Jones added another two goals in the game, but Sophomore Keller Sans led the team with three goals.
To start off Sunday, the Lakers played John Hopkins for the second time in the 2024 season. Mercyhurst was edged 16-10, as they couldn't keep up with Blue Jays offense. Freshman
Petar Vujovic led the Lakers with three goals. He scored goals in three separate periods, but ultimately it wasn't enough.
In the final matchup of the weekend, Mercyhurst traveled to Lewisburg, Pa. to face Bucknell. The Lakers once again saw themselves on the losing end in 20-9 decision. Sampedro and Junior
Owen Hardner each recorded a hat trick in the losing effort.
