Men’s Water Polo Prepares for Trio of Games

9/22/2023 12:00:00 PM

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo dropped three games this past weekend in the Bucknell Invitational and now sit at 1-8 on the season. They look to round out the month of September on a high note in their three games on the weekend as they face Brown, MIT, and Harvard.

Looking Back

Mercyhurst fell in all three of their bouts this past weekend in Lewisburg, Pa. First up they had Salem in a game in which Mercyhurst had the lead early, but the Tigers made the right adjustments as the game went along in the 18-4 final. Next up was Mount St. Mary's who controlled the game to begin things. Despite a good effort in the final period of play by the Lakers, they fell 15-9. Their final game came one Sunday when they competed against LIU who was able to take control in the early going in the 14-9 final.

Scouting Brown

The Bears are 3-2 on the season to this point and have not been in the water since September 4th after a cancelation this past weekend. They have picked up a couple of solid wins as they have defeated both RV Bucknell and #15 Fordham, making for a formidable foe for the Lakers.

Scouting MIT

Mercyhurst and the Engineers have already met once so far this season with MIT getting the better of that matchup in the 20-12 final. MIT is now 5-1 on the season, winning each of their last five contests as they have gotten hot of late. Adam Ivatorov is someone the Lakers must be ready for as he currently leads the team in goals with 16 while Bo Tingal joins his Engineer teammate in double-digits with 10.

Scouting Harvard

The Lakers finish out their week on Sunday, September 24th, against Harvard who is currently 5-2 on the year. The Crimson were riding a three-game winning streak prior to a loss in their last game to Fordham, 14-10, and look to begin a new one against the Lakers. Harvard will be fresh for the matchup with Mercyhurst as they have not played since September 10th when they competed in the Princeton Invitational.

Next Game

The Lakers open up the month of October on Friday, October 6th, when they compete against Augustana inside the Hallman Aquatic Center. Mercyhurst then hosts Austin College on the 7th with a start time of 6:30 p.m. before a couple of weeks off from action.
