Box Score 2 Providence, Ri. - Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo was not able to get the job done in their first two games of the season, falling to Mount St. Mary's by a final of 11-6 before dropping their matchup to the University of the Pacific 23-3.
How it Happened
Mercyhurst was able to keep pace with the Mount in game one in the early going, tying with their counterpart at the end of the first period 2-2. It was new faces getting the job done in the early going with Ben Gavran scoring goal number one while Ian Baca beat the buzzer to tie it 2-2 at the end of the first.
The Mount was able to take control in the second period with two goals to take a 4-2 lead into halftime. It was the third quarter that Mount St. Mary's took control, taking an 8-3 lead into the final eight minutes before securing a five-goal win.
The University of the Pacific was in control from the word go as they pulled out in front 8-0 in the opening period. Mercyhurst did manage to score once in the second and third with Owen Hardner scoring a goal coming out of the halftime break, but it proved to be a moot point as the Tigers took a 19-2 lead into the fourth.
From there on out, Pacific finished out with a 25-3 win.

Mercyhurst is set to compete again tomorrow as they head to Norton, Ma. to face off against MIT at 9:30 a.m. followed by Augusta at 12:30 p.m.
