Men’s Water Polo Set for Trio of Contests

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Men's Water Polo gets back in the water this weekend as they play in three games. The Lakers begin on Saturday, September 16th, when they compete against Salem at 2:00 p.m. followed by a rematch with Mount St. Mary's later that night. They then close out their weekend with LIU on Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. start time.

Laker Leaders

Owen Hardner currently leads the team with 10 goals to go along with two assists for a total of 12 points. Newcomer Asher Jones comes in right behind with eight goals to his line after five this past weekend in a pair of games. Teagan Thomas scored four times in the Laker's two games to help him round out the top three scorers as the graduate student currently has seven to his line. Matej Kovacevic has been the top facilitator with four assists while Thomas and Nate Cheney both has three.

Scouting Salem

The Tigers are 5-0 to this point in the season and hope to keep that streak going against the Lakers. Salem has been a very strong offensive unit to this point in the season with 105 goals in five games, scoring 20 or more in four of those contests. 

Scouting Mount St. Mary's

The Mount come into the weekend 1-3 with their lone win coming against Mercyhurst in their season opener. Since then, Mount St. Mary's has suffered two double-digit losses to Pacific (21-7) and Augustana (18-6) while narrowly losing out to MIT 19-17. After defeating Mercyhurst in their first matchup, the Mount look to repeat history and move to 9-0 in the all-time series.

Scouting LIU

Long Island comes into the new weekend 1-6 with their lone win coming against Washington & Jefferson on September 3rd by a final of 15-9. Riyad Shehadeh has been the team's top goal scorer with 20 goal to this point in the season with Karl Lovett close behind with 16 while leading the team in assists with six.

Next Game

The Lakers are slated for three games the following weekend as they travel to Providence, RI. To see Brown on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 a.m. before a rematch with MIT at 2:30 p.m. They then travel to Harvard on Sunday with a start time of 10:00 a.m.
