Erie, Pa. - After one of their more successful seasons on the pitch, Mercyhurst Men's Soccer reloads with 18 new players joining the team for the 2023 season.
"We are extremely excited about this class and feel as though we have added a good mix of experience and youth," said Head Coach Ryan Osborne. "We want to continue to build on the momentum we had as a program last year and I think this class will complement our returning group well."
The group of newcomers includes eight transfer students while the other 10 enjoy collegiate play for the first time in their careers. 10 of the newest Lakers come from the states with Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Michigan, New York, Virginia, and Minnesota being represented by the group while Austria, Ireland, Spain, England, Brazil, and Germany are also being checked off.
"While we have addressed key positional needs, we have also added players who want to embrace our program's standards and expectations on and off the field," said Osborne about his newest players. "We are excited to welcome this class to the Laker family and we look forward to working with them in August."
Mercyhurst focused its efforts more so on the offensive end of the pitch with six of the newcomers listed as forwards while having five midfielders, four defenders, and two goalkeepers rounding out the group. After scoring 1.3 goals per game a season ago, the Lakers look to keep their offense rolling with the depth of their newest faces.
