Men’s Soccer Drops Final Home Match to FDU; Tyler Prex Nets First Career Goal

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team hosted FDU in their final home match of the season. FDU had already clinched postseason play and was pushing for the number one seed. Mercyhurst entered the match in fifth place, trying to keep their postseason chances alive. The match was tied 1-1 at the half. The Knights went down to ten men early in the second half. The Lakers were unable to capitalize on this advantage as they fell in this one, 3-2.

The first half opened with both teams seeking early opportunities, but it was FDU (10-4-3, 6-1-1 NEC) capitalized first, scoring in the 17th minute. Mercyhurst (3-9-4, 3-4-1 NEC) responded in the 33rd minute. Sergio Sanchez played a long ball over the top that found Aiden Williams-McCracken. McCracken made a move and buried the ball in the top right corner of the net for his second goal of the season. Throughout the half, the Lakers generated several chances, including shots by Alvar Silva and Benjamin Buckley, keeping FDU's defense engaged. The half concluded with the teams level at 1-1.

The second half began with a pivotal moment as FDU received a red card at the 54:19 mark, reducing their side to 10 players. However, the Knights extended their lead just 30 seconds later. Despite facing a two-goal deficit following FDU's 68th-minute goal, the Lakers responded. Ben Conti received a nice pass and squared the ball for Tyler Prex, who netted his first goal of the season. Mercyhurst continued to press for an equalizer, creating several opportunities, including a shot by Ryan Mrvcic in the 81st minute. However, despite the increased offensive pressure, the Knights prevailed and won 3-2.

The Lakers will close the regular season on the road at New Haven. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
