Women’s Rowing Claims Win At East Regional

Hamilton, N.Y. - Mercyhurst Women's Rowing rounded out the East Regional Invite this morning with the varsity eights able to take home the trophy to start off the month of May.

How It Happened

After establishing themselves in the water yesterday, the Lakers finished out the East Regional Invite Sunday morning with a pair of wins by the varsity eights. They were first in the water, taking on Jefferson with Mercyhurst crossing first with a time of 7:11.5. Varsity fours were next up with them also racing the Rams with Jefferson taking the win as they crossed at 8:12.2 while the Lakers came in at 8:57.0. The varsity eights competed for the second time on the day to round out the weekend with D'Youville as their foe. The Lakers once again crossed the finish line first with a time of 7:02.5 while the Saints had a time of 7:32.1.

Hear From Coach

"The racing today was fun and a great event," said Director of Rowing Adrian Spracklen. "The fours performed about as well as the coaches could have hoped and the eights did enough to certainly establish themselves well enough to win the trophy today. Our performance against Jefferson was not one of our better races, but we were pleased with the result. In our last race against D'Youville, we found a better rhythm and the team was pleased with their row."

What's Next

The Lakers turn their attention to the Dad Vails next weekend with competition beginning on Friday, May 12th, before finishing things out the following day in Cherry Hill, N.J.
