Women's Hockey Dances to CHA Final After Shutout Against Syracuse

ERIE, Pa. - The Lakers eliminated the Syracuse Orange this afternoon in the MIC.

The team dominated, earning a 6-0 shutout.

How it Happened

First Period

Alexandria Weiss was positioned in the right faceoff circle and accepted a puck from Marielle Parks and Kylee Mahoney. It flew past the goaltender to score the first of the game at 12:26.

Thea Johansson picked up speed, flew towards the net, and fired the puck. It hit the bar and went to the back of the net at 18:10. Makayla Javier tallied her ninth apple of the season.

Second Period

The Lakers were on a power play and used their opportunity to take the puck down the ice. Sara Boucher placed herself in front of the net to accept a puck from Megan McKay and Liliane Perreault. She found an area, and the puck entered the net at 11:26.

Perreault earned her second point of the night on a goal at 14:41. She was assisted in front of the crease by Sydney Wegner and Jordan Mortlock.

Third Period

Vanessa Upson and Chantal Ste-Croix battled for the puck in the corner on Syracuse's side. The puck was then passed to Johansson. She ignited and sent the puck to the back for the second time at 12:57.

Javier and Aubrey Cole played with the puck and sent it to Grace Nelles. She had an open rink and had a bar-down goal with 17:09 on the clock.

Highlights

Ena Nystrøm had a shutout stopping 20 shots.

Makayla Javier earned a career-high ten blocks.

The team had a faceoff percentage of 65.6%

The Lakers will face the Penn State Nittany Lions next weekend in the CHA Final. The date and time are still TBD.

The matchup will be a single game. Whoever wins will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
