BOSTON – Atlantic Hockey America released their players of the week awards for this past weekend. After splitting their first AHA weekend with Syracuse, the Mercyhurst Women's Hockey team was gracefully represented by
Mariia Polozkova, who was awarded the AHA Rookie of the Week honor for the first time this season. This is also the first AHA honor for the team during this season.
Polozkova was named the AHA Rookie of the Week after a strong performance in game two of the Syracuse series. The Moscow, Russia native recorded three points, two of which were goals, in the 5-2 Laker win.
During the game, Polozkova was the secondary assist on the first Laker goal of the afternoon, and she was able to find the back of the net while on the penalty kill near the halfway point of the second period. With less than a second left in the period, Polozkova rifled a quick shot from the slot that gave the Lakers a two-goal advantage heading into the final frame of the game. In addition, Polozkova was a reliable forward on the defensive end of the ice, recording two blocks for the Laker squad as well as finishing with a +4 rating against Syracuse.
