Erie, Pa. – Women
's Water Polo heads to the Bucknell Invitational to take on Mount St. Mary
's, La Salle University, and St. Francis College Brooklyn. In Lewisburg, Pa., the Lakers face their first opponent, Mount St. Mary
's, on Saturday, February 11th. On Sunday, the Lakers will round out their weekend with two more matches.
1. Scouting Mount St. Mary's
Last weekend's competition against Mount St Mary's didn't end with the result that Mercyhurst wanted, but now they get another chance against the Mountaineers. Mercyhurst was trying to keep up in the first quarter, but the Mountaineers quickly pulled away. The Lakers are going to need an extra push after halftime in order to put points up on the board. Mercyhurst's
Hanna Good was able to score her two goals in transition as she exposed the Mountaineer's weaknesses.
2. Scouting La Salle University
The last time Mercyhurst played La Salle was March of 2022. Mercyhurst eventually fell to La Salle after a back-and-forth rally. Returners this year, Good and
Sakura Gavin, were top performers in this game last year. Good had two shots, one assist, and one goal while Sakura shot 100% with four shots and four goals.
3. Scouting St. Francis College Brooklyn
Last year the Lakers fell to St. Francis College Brooklyn in March. The Terriers prove to be a tough opponent because they started the match out strong. The last time the Lakers won against the Terriers was in 2018. Defense is going to be a critical part of the Laker's game plan this weekend.
4. Laker Highlights
So far this season Good and Sakura have added three goals to their ledgers.
Sara Marin has added two goals whileÂ
Panna Mozbauer registered 17 total saves for the season.
5. Next Weekend
The Lakers host the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invite in Erie. The weekend promises to be a challenging one as Mercyhurst is set to compete in five games with some of them against top-tier talent. They also see a few familiar faces again from this weekend in La Salle University and St. Francis College Brooklyn.
