Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst men's water polo now looks to the postseason this weekend as they are scheduled to make the trip to Lebanon, Ill. to compete in the WWPA Championships with competition beginning on Friday, November 17th and finishing up on the 19th. Mercyhurst is set to see Biola in game number one while awaiting their opponent in the second round of the double elimination tournament.
A Look Back
Mercyhurst finished the regular season 4-19 while going 0-6 in WWPA play. The team was able to get the win in their last contest, defeating Penn State Behrend this past Saturday in a thrilling 12-11 final to snap a seven-game losing skid and give the Lakers some momentum heading into the postseason.
Laker Leaders
Owen Hardner has been the offensive leader for the team to this point in the season as he has collected 50 points on the year with 44 goals and six assists to his line. He is followed by freshman Asher Jones who has 46 points points while Teagan Thomas rounds out the top three with 39. Thomas comes in tops for assists with 16 while Jones follows with 13 and a team-high 17 steals as well, proving to be a force on both sides of the pool.
Where They Stand
Mercyhurst comes into the tournament in last place in the WWPA East as they hold a record of 0-6 in conference play. Gannon finds themselves in third while McKendree takes second and Salem claimed the top spot. In the the West, Biola finished in first while Concordia second and Fresno Pacific in third.
Scouting Biola
The Eagles come into the postseason with a record of 18-12 while going 4-0 in the WWPA West. Nolan Rapp has been the main offensive weapon for Biola to this point in the season as he has collected 100 points total with 49 goals and 51 assists. He is followed by Maxwell Osborn and Roman Saroyan who both have over 90 points to this point in the season with Osborn's 68 goals leading the team, making him someone the Lakers will need to pay close attention to.
