Erie, Pa. - For the first time in the 2023 season, Mercyhurst men's water polo will play within their friendly confines. Mercyhurst welcomes Augusta to town on Friday, October 6th, before they Austin College the following day in a 6:30 p.m. start.
Looking Back
The Lakers are 1-11 to this point in the season and are currently riding a seven-game losing streak .Their lone win on the year came against Washington & Jefferson on September 9th in a 14-9 final in which Teagan Thomas led the way with five goals and an assist. After a weekend off, the team will look to start the new month off with a pair of wins.
Where They Stand
Mercyhurst currently sits in fourth in the WWPA East standings with their 1-11 mark. They come in behind McKendree who is 5-9 on the year while Gannon sits in second at 5-2 as Salem takes the top spot at 10-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of Navy in late September. In the West Division, Biola sits atop at 10-9, Concordia comes in second at 5-8, and Fresno Pacific is in third at 3-9.
Scouting Augustana
Augustana is 3-5 coming into the month of October with them dropping each of their last two contests in the Gary Troyer Tournament. One of the team's trio of wins came against the Lakers back in the beginning of September as they defeated Mercyhurst 22-7. Oskar Bannister has been the go-to scorer for Augusta so far with a team-high 20 goals as Ian Palmroos is the only other swimmer in double figures with 10.
Scouting Austin College
The Kangaroos have yet to win a game this season as they currently hold a record of 0-8. They'll hope to add one to the win column this upcoming weekend as they are scheduled to play five game with the Lakers being the middle game of that run. Offense has not been a strong suit for Austin College up to this point as they have failed to score double-digit goals in any one gam this season, giving Mercyhurst some hope they grab win number two of the season.
Next Game
The Lakers is scheduled to play one game the following week with the team seeing Washington & Jefferson. Mercyhurst will hit the road to see the Presidents on Friday, October 13th in Washington, Pa. In a 6:00 p.m. start.
