Lakers Prepare for WWPA Classic

10/27/2023 10:00:00 AM

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst will get to play within their friendly confines this upcoming weekend as the team is set to compete in the WWPA Erie Classic inside the Hallman Aquatic Center. The team is slated for three games with them seeing Gannon to kick things off on Saturday, October 28th at noon followed by a 3:00 p.m. bout with Salem. They then round out their weekend the following morning with McKendree at 8:30 a.m.

Looking Back

By the time the Lakers get back in the pool on the 28th, they will have had 15 days off since their last game. In their last contest, they were defeated Washington & Jefferson on the 13th of October in a 9-5 final that saw a 6-2 deficit in the second half. Before that, Mercyhurst had won two straight with an 11-6 win over Austin College followed by a tight, 12-11 win over Penn State Behrend. They hope to keep the momentum going this weekend from those wins and add onto the win column.

Scouting Gannon

The Golden Knights are 6-6 to this point in the season, dropping each of their last three contests. Most recently, the team headed out west to California where they fell to Cal Lutheran 13-8 and Biola 12-8. This upcoming weekend will be Gannon's first time inside the Hallman Aquatic Center this season, potentially making for an anticipatory crowd.

Scouting the Tigers

Salem comes into the weekend 12-3 with them winning their last two games, defeating Occidental 18-13 before a 16-11 win over MIT on the 15th of October. The team has been led by the trio of Nikola Krstonosic, Marko Zivojinovic, and Ivan Zivojinovic who have a combined 212 goals on the season. Krstonosic leads the way with 80 to go along with 52 assists for a total of 132 points with all three figures leading the team. Ivan has 66 goals while Marko has 56 to go with 40 assists.

Scouting McKendree

McKendree is 5-9 to this point in the season. They have yet to play a game in the month of October and should be coming into the weekend fresh. In their last event, they headed west for Ponoma, Ca. where they competed in four games and came away with one win over Fresno Pacific in a 16-15 final.
