Bloomsburg, Pa. - Mercyhurst field hockey finished out the week on the wrong side of the scoreboard against the Huskies Saturday afternoon. Bloomsburg was able to keep a steady pace with one goal in each of the first three periods on their way to the 3-0 win.
How it Happened
Bloomsburg found the back of the cage for their first score just three minutes into the contest as Genna Bush scored. The Lakers responded well and were able to keep the deficit at one for the remainder of the period. The Huskies fired off four more shots after their opening score, but Kayla Desormeau and the rest of the back line managed to hold strong.
The Huskies got on the board midway through the second to help them increase their lead to multiple goals. Once again, Mercyhurst's defense tightened up and managed to go into the halftime break down just two.
Mercyhurst was able to make some adjustments during the halftime and begin to go on the attack. After failing to record a shot in the opening two frames, they fired off two in the third with both failing to hit the target. Bloomsburg, however, scored one more time in the fourth minute of the third to make it 3-0.
The score held right there for the remainder of the contest as the Lakers had started to find an answer for their counterpart, allowing just three shots in the fourth. They once again had two shots to their line in the fourth, but once again failed to score in the shutout.
Highlights
Amy Van Rooyen finished with two of the team shots to lead the team while Delfina Magro and Jen Kemp each had one as well. Kayla Desormeau did not see as many shots as she has in her recent games, having only nine saves in the contest to give her 117 for the year.
Next Game
The Lakers play one game next week with the team set to see East Stroudsburg on Saturday, October 21st. Mercyhurst will host the Warriors in that one with a start time of 11:00 a.m. inside Saxon Stadium.
