Fast Five: Field Hockey Set to Host Bloomsburg

Erie, Pa. - The Lakers are set to play their first game in close to a week with them playing within their friendly confines against Bloomsburg tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Mercyhurst sees Saxon Stadium for the first time in nearly two weeks against the Huskies, looking to grab win number two of 2022.

1. Dominant Desormeau

Kayla Desormeau has put together a strong sophomore campaign as she finds herself near the top of several NCAA leaderboards among goalies. The native of Waterloo, Ont. is third in the NCAA in saves with 52 with a .788 save percentage, good for eighth in the country. She has seen her saves per game continually go up through the year, setting new season-highs in saves in back-to-back games with her 19 against Mansfield last Wednesday being her high mark.

2. Sharing the Ball

Mercyhurst's offense has been one predicated on sharing the ball with no one player being held responsible for the entire production. To this point in the season, the team has all three of their goals coming from three different players, showing the team-first offensive mindset. This time around, the Lakers look to use the well-balanced attack in order to claim an advantage over the Huskies.

3. Changing History

The Lakers have had a tough time overcoming Bloomsburg with the Huskies holding the all-time series lead over Mercyhurst 15-0. In the two team's previous matchup Mercyhurst was able to snap a string of shutouts by their counterpart and scored a goal courtesy of Sarah Vosburgh in the 5-1 loss. Previous to that goal by the senior, the Lakers had not scored a goal in a home game against the Huskies.

4. Scouting Bloomsburg

The Huskies come into the game with a record 4-3, winning each of their last two games. They have played five of their seven games on the road so far this year, going 2-3. Bloomsburg has pitched three shutouts so far in 2022 with only one being on the road, coming in the team's season-opening 2-0 win over Belmont Abbey.

5. What's Next

The Lakers will get some time off before their next contest with the team set to host Wingate University on Monday, October 3rd, at noon.
