Bloomsburg, Pa. - Day two of the ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament proved to be a good one for Mercyhurst Men's Tennis. The team competed in 10 total matches with several of them yielding positive results, giving them some momentum they'll look to carry into their next competition.
Hot It Happened
The Lakers had two matches in doubles play with neither of them going the way they wanted. Despite the team's efforts, both tandems found themselves on the wrong side of the scorecard. Ben Davis and Noha De Sousa Pereira battled hard in their doubles match against Charleston's Fehann Patrawala and Marcelo Pinto but were unable to claw out the win, dropping the bout 6-4. Lukas Cabue and Juan Carlos Hernandez Briones met a similar fate, losing their match 6-3 to Jowan Rawson and Lennert Stevens of Charleston.
Mercyhurst had more success in singles, winning two matches. Davis recorded the first of the Laker's two victories in the round of 32. The senior made quick work of his opponent in the first set with a 6-2 win before Alberto Nordio of Charleston battled in the second, but still ultimately falling 6-4 to help Davis advance. De Sousa Pereira grabbed the second of the team's two wins with his match looking much like Davis'. Noha won the first set 6-2 and then found himself in the middle of a back-and-forth affair in which he ended up taking 7(6)-6(4).
What's Next
The Lakers will take a week off before heading back to Bloomsburg for the third time in as many trips. Mercyhurst will be making the trip back east this time around for the PSAC Singles and Doubles Tournament beginning on Saturday, October 1st, with the event lasting through the 3rd.
