Charleston, Wv. – The Mercyhurst Men's Tennis team dropped their opening round contest in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament on Monday afternoon by a 4-2 score to the West Liberty Hilltoppers. The loss bounces the Lakers out of the tournament.
In the doubles portion of the contest, West Liberty took the No.2 and No.3 doubles matches to earn the first point in the match. Ben Davis and Noha De Sousa Pereira fell by a 2-6 score while Hristo Plasheski and Morris Haab fell 3-6. The Lakers No.1 tandem of David Akinpetide and Milan Jankovic were up 5-3 on their opponents before the Hilltoppers clinched the doubles point.
In singles, Akinpetide and Jankovic fell in the No.1 and No.2 slots as West Liberty went up 3-0.
Noha De Sousa Pereira notched a victory at the No.4 spot by a 6-4, 6-3 margin to give the Lakers their first point of the match. The next match to conclude was the No.6 singles match where
Morris Haab won in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to keep the Lakers chances alive. West Liberty clinched the match when they won the No.5 singles match over the Lakers
Hristo Plasheski by a 2-6, 6-7 (6) final.
