Hamm, Landymore Combine for 13 Goals as Men's Lacrosse Rolls at Walsh

Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio—The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team returned from a nine-day hiatus to take on Walsh in GMAC action Tuesday. The Lakers were powered by eight Myles Hamm goals, while Ethan Landymore chipped in five on the way to a 19-9 win.

Hamm got the party started early, scoring three minutes in off a feed from Nicholas Mabe to make it 1-0 Lakers. The Cavaliers answered to tie things at one, but that only lasted for roughly 90 seconds when Landymore got his first of the evening off a Bryce Johnson apple to put Mercyhurst up with 7:47 to go in the first.

Walsh once again brought things to a deadlock before the visiting Lakers decided to kick it into overdrive. Mercyhurst scored four unanswered to close out the opening frame with Jacob Emerson, Landymore, Hamm and Todd Redman accounting for the tallies to make it 6-2 after the first.

The Lakers picked up where they left off in the second quarter finding the back of the net three times in the opening three minutes of the frame to make it 9-2. A Landymore strike with 7:38 to go in the half put Mercyhurst up 10-3 before Walsh netted four unanswered of their own to make it 10-7 at the halftime break.

The Mercyhurst defense shined in the closing 30 minutes only allowing two Walsh goals in the second half. Brett Olney made five saves in the second half as well, adding to his five in the first to give him an even 10 on the game.

The third quarter was the 'Myles Hamm Show' as the nation's fourth leading scorer in goals per game ripped twine five times in the frame, and three times in the first three minutes. Jèrèmi Phoenix-Lefebvre added a tally and Landymore, who entered the evening leading the nation in goals per game, scored as well in the third and when the dust settled Mercyhurst led 17-8 with one quarter to play.

Emerson added his third of the night early in the fourth and Liam Bogedain added a score with 80 seconds to play capping off a mundane fourth quarter and making the final 19-9.

The Lakers dominated faceoffs all night long, winning 22 of 32 from the X. Shawn Doran helped his statistical cause on the evening winning 20 of 25 faceoffs. The 20 wins are a season-high for the junior, who ranks third in the nation in faceoff win rate. He also collected 16 ground balls on the evening, a stat which he ranks sixth in the nation.

Stephen Katz was able to cause three Walsh turnovers on the evening, while Johnson led the Lakers in helpers with six, Landymore had four assists as well. Mercyhurst was near perfect in switching the field as well, finishing off 23 of their 26 clear attempts.

Mercyhurst is back in action on home turf Saturday. The Lakers take on No. 19 Seton Hill for a GMAC matchup slated for a 7:00 PM start. Moe's Southwest Grill will also be providing free chips and salsa at the game.
