Men’s Tennis Falls 4-3 to Edinboro in Hard Fought PSAC Championship Match

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Tennis team fell in the PSAC Championship Match against Edinboro by a 4-3 score. The Lakers will now wait for the final Atlantic Region Rankings to be announced to see if they earn a spot in the Atlantic Regional Tournament.

The Lakers got started earning the first point of the match when they swept the No.1 and No.3 doubles matches. David Akinpetide and Milan Jankovic were victorious by a 6-3 score at the No.1 spot while Hristo Plasheski and Morris Haab took a 6-3 win at No.3 doubles.

In singles play, Noha De Sousa Pereira put the Lakers ahead 2-0 when he claimed his No.4 singles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Edinboro would capture the next point at No.2 singles to cut the Laker lead in half before Habb extended the Laker lead to 3-1 with a 7-6(4), 6-0 straight set decision.

The next matches to finish were the No.1 and No.3 singles matches. Akinpetide lost the No.1 match 5-7, 4-6 and Milan Jankovic fell 3-6, 4-6 as Edinboro fought back to tie the contest at 3-3 with just one match remaining. The match featured the Lakers Plasheski at the No.5 spot. He dropped the first set 3-6 before dropping the final set 5-7, giving the Fighting Scots the victory.
