Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Tennis team advanced to the PSAC Men's Tennis Championship Match after a 4-2 win over Millersville in the Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg.
The Marauders started with two quick wins in doubles play to capture the early 1-0 lead before singles matches began. Ben Davis and Noha De Sousa Pereira fell 3-6 in the No.2 slot while David Akinpetide and Milan Jankovic dropped their No.1 match 1-6.
The Lakers would begin to make up the score in singles action. Akinpetide fell in the No.1 singles match to nationally ranked Carlos Martinez 2-6, 0-6. De Sousa and
Morris Haab gave the Lakers their first two points of the match to level out the score at 2-2. De Sousa earned a straight set victory at the No.4 spot 6-1, 6-0 while Haab secured a win at the No.6 singles match with a 6-0, 6-4 score.
Hristo Plasheski came in as the next finisher, he put the Lakers up 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory at the No.5 position.
The match would come down to No.2 and No.3 singles matches featuring the Lakers Davis and Jankovic. Davis would drop the first set before falling down 1-5 in the second set. While that was happening, Jankovic was behind 4-6, 3-5. With the Lakers facing elimination. Davis faced two match points before rallying all the way back to claim his match while Jankovic fought back to claim the second set of his match, allowing Davis to earn the win and advance the Lakers into the Finals.
