ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team is back this week with another pair of games to be played. The Lakers will first host Roberts Wesleyan tomorrow at home with start time scheduled for 6:00 p.m. before hitting the road for West Virginia where they will battle it out with GMAC foe Alderson Broaddus on Saturday.
Laker Overview
Last week, the Lakers earned two crucial wins over GMAC opponents. They first cruised to a 19-9 win last Tuesday over Wash before defeating Seton Hill on Saturday by an 18-16 margin in what was a matchup of two top-20 nationally ranked teams.
Myles Hamm led the way for the Lakers in the win over Walsh scoring eight for the teams 19 tallies while
Nicholas Mabe,
Jacob Emerson, and Hamm all provided critical goals for the Lakers in the win over Seton Hill. The game also marked a milestone for Mercyhurst junior midfielder
Bryce Johnson who recorded his 100th career point when he assisted on a
Myles Hamm goal at the 4:31 mark in the third quarter on Saturday. Johnson now has collected 41 goals to go along with 59 assists in his three years with the Lakers.
Scouting Roberts Wesleyan
The Redhawks will enter tomorrow's game with a 9-1 record while going 4-0 in ECC play. Roberts Wesleyan was just barely left out of the top-20 in the latest USILA Division II rankings as they received 43 votes, just 18 behind No. 20 Seton Hill.
The Redhawks are led on attack by Reid Jackowski and Hunter Lemieux. Jackowski leads the team with 59 points on 30 goals and 29 assists while Lemieux's 40 goals in 10 games played puts him third in the country in individual goals per game (4.00). The two guys in front of him? Mercyhurst's
Ethan Landymore (4.78) and
Myles Hamm (4.33).
Scouting Alderson Broaddus
The Battlers currently have a record of 1-6 with an 0-2 mark in GMAC play ranking sixth of seven teams in the standings. Their lone win came back on March 7th, an 18-3 dismantling of D'Youville. Other than that game, Alderson Broaddus's only other game that has been close this season was their 10-11 loss to Davis & Elkins.
The Battlers are led on attack by Connor Calmbacher and Braxton Roman. Each have registered 23 points this season while Calmbacher leads the team with 16 goals.
Moving On Up!
The Lakers have moved up to sixth in the latest USILA National Rankings, the highest spot they have been at since they were ranked 4th in the week 1 poll released by the organization during the first week of February. The Lakers now have gone 2-2 in games played against nationally ranked opponents this year, the wins coming against Seton Hill and Lewis while the losses have been against current No. 2 Le Moyne, and current No. 7 Wingate.
