Men’s and Women’s Tennis Travels to Saint Francis Tuesday

Erie, Pa.—Before heading south for their spring trip to Florida, the Mercyhurst Men's and Women's tennis teams will get one final tune-up as they travel to Loretto to take on Saint Francis University.

The women will begin play at 11 a.m. while the men are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Laker Overview

Sara Bertolez Puente had a productive weekend for the women, picking up wins in both of her matches at No. 6 singles. On Friday, she won handily against Charleston's Aida Montero (6-1, 6-2), and followed that up with a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 win over St. Bonaventure's Paula Araceli Velille.

Valentine Budin also earned a win at No. 5 singles on Sunday, defeating Emily Stanley 6-2, 6-3. Despite losing the doubles point, the Lakers did scratch out a win at first doubles with Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy earning a 6-3 win.

The Lakers hit a speedbump Friday in which Noha DeSoua Pereira was the lone Laker to earn a win at No. 5 singles. On Sunday, Pereira and Ben Davis earned a 6-4 win at second doubles, but the Lakers dropped the doubles point and five singles matches. Milan Jankovic earned the lone singles win at the third spot.

Scouting Saint Francis

The Saint Francis women have dropped their last five duals after a win over St. Bonaventure on Feb. 13. This past weekend, the Red Flash took road losses to Bucknell – in which they won one doubles and one singles match – and Lehigh.

Against the Mountain Hawks, Anoek Pruijmboom earned her second win of the weekend for Saint Francis at No. 2 singles. Nagisa Miyake also picked up a win at No. 5 singles.

The men suffered a similar fate to Bucknell, earning one doubles and one singles win. The team of Christian Banti and Jordi Garcia earned a 7-6 (7-5) win at third doubles, and Banti secured the lone Red Flash point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at sixth singles.

The men were unable to earn a win against Lehigh.
