Desormeau Grabs All-Conference Honors

Lock Haven, Pa. - The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced their 2022 conference awards with Laker goalkeeper Kayla Desormeau finding her way onto that list. The conference released their All-PSAC teams Thursday with Desormeau making it as a member of the All-PSAC Second Team for her efforts in 2022.

Desormeau played all but 30 minutes in the cage for the Lakers this season as she played a total of 1,009 minutes across 17 games. She allowed 44 goals for an average of 2.62 goals allowed per game while saving 203 shots with a save percentage of 82.3%. The native of Waterloo, Ont. proved to be one of the better goalies in the PSAC with that line as she ranked first in saves and saves per game while her save percentage was third best in the conference.

The sophomore was a save machine for Mercyhurst throughout the season as she often times kept her team right in the middle of games. Her ability to send back shots by the opponent energized her team as they did all they could to help their goalie. Desormeau recorded double-digit saves in 10 of the team's 17 games during the season, breaking 20 twice while setting a new career-high in saves with 26 against West Chester on October 22nd.

Her high save totals were not just some of the best in the conference, but also the nation. Her 203 saves were the most in the country by a wide margin as Grace Burker of Slippery Rock was second with 137. She was the only goalkeeper in all of NCAA DII to average double-digit saves a game with 11.94, adding on to what was already a very impressive season. Her performance was not just about her sheer number of saves as she ranked fifth in the country in save percentage a 82.3%, showing she was the complete package in the cage. With her just finishing up her second season, more accolades are sure to follow.
