Lakers Earn First Win of the Season with Commanding 6-0 Victory over D'Youville

ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst University earned their first win of the season with a commanding 6-0 victory over D'Youville University at Saxon Stadium, with a solid defensive effort resulting in a shutout and just two shots on goal allowed.

The match opened with Mercyhurst applying early pressure, highlighted by a penalty corner from Lola Williams. Despite several attempts, it was Delaney Lentz who broke through, scoring to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.

Ava Jones extended the lead shortly after, finding the back of the net with an assist from Marina Evert, marking her second goal of the season. The first quarter concluded with the Lakers leading the Saints 2-0.

The Lakers extended their lead early in the second quarter with a goal by Evert, bringing the score to 3-0. Finja Wunner capitalized on a penalty corner, recording her first goal of the season to make it 4-0. Despite multiple fouls and the Saints' efforts to score, the Lakers maintained control, closing the quarter with a four-goal advantage.

The Lakers maintained their dominance in the third quarter, with Evert scoring again to secure her fourth goal of the season, increasing their lead to 5-0. Despite numerous fouls, Mercyhurst's offensive pressure was evident, as they forced multiple saves from the Saints' goalie. The quarter concluded with the Lakers maintaining a solid defensive performance.

Mercyhurst maintained control throughout the fourth quarter, marked by multiple penalty corners and persistent offensive pressure. Alyssa Laubach and Anna Muscat each forced saves early in the quarter. Despite a series of fouls, the Lakers' persistence paid off when goalkeeper Louise Pert entered the field of play as a forward and found the back of the net, scoring her first career goal and solidifying their lead.

The game concluded with the Lakers securing a decisive 6-0 victory over the Saints.

The Lakers will close out their season this weekend with a two-game road stretch, beginning at New Haven on Friday, October 31, and concluding at Lock Haven on Sunday, November 2.
