Erie, Pa. - The final week of October provided the Lakers with some solid individual efforts. Kayla Desormeau of Field Hockey and Cameron Barmore of Football rose above the rest as they are named this week's PGG Athletes of the Week.
Desormeau began her week with a performance against PSAC foe Slippery Rock on the road Wednesday, October 26th. The Lakers were unable to get the win in that game as they fell 2-1 after a long game that saw two overtime periods. Desormeau held her own as she collected 14 saves in the game and allowed just one goal with the other of the Rock's goals coming in the shootout. In game two of the week, the native of Waterloo, Ontario faced #4 Kutztown. The Golden Bears made Mercyhurst experience some déjà vu as it was the second time on the week the Lakers had fallen by a score of 2-1 where she saved 11 shots.
Desormeau has been one of the top shot blockers in the country with 153 saves to her line coming into the new week for the most in the country. Her 10.93 saves per game are also the most as she is the only goalie in the NCAA to average double-digit saves.
Cameron Barmore put together one of the best games of his career at Mercyhurst this past Saturday when the Lakers hosted Cal (Pa.). The sophomore wide receiver reeled in five catches for a team-high 117 yards while catching a game-high two touchdowns and a 59-yard catch for his longest reception of the year.
Barmore has been one of the favorite targets of the Laker's quarterback this season with him near the team leaderboards in several categories. He ranks second on the team in catches with 22 while his 377 yards are tied for first alongside Trevon Tate. Barmore has made a habit of getting in the end zone with a team-high six TD receptions with that mark putting him tied for fifth in the conference.
Barmore and the Lakers return to action once again this Saturday as they hit the road for the final time in 2022. They are set to travel to Greensburg, Pa. to play against the Seton Hill Griffins in a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
