Fast Five: Field Hockey Heads Back on the Road To Bloomsburg

Erie, Pa.--The Mercyhurst Field Hockey team returns to action this Saturday, October 8, when they travel to Bloomsburg, Pa to take on the Bloomsburg Huskies.

1. Mighty Magro

Delfina Magro earned herself PPG's Athlete of the Week after a great performance in her game against Wingate. This is her first honors of the 2022 season. Magro and her teammates got their second win of the season against Wingate with a score of 4-3. Magro helped lead her team to the win by being involved of three of the four goals scored by the Lakers. She scored one, assisted the other two. She also helped force turnovers from Wingate to keep possession of the ball.

2. Another Win

The Lakers are beating their record from last year by two wins. Their first win came in the game against Franklin Pierce University on September 11. With a 2-1 win, the first goal was a pass off a corner in the second quarter. Their second goal came from Kayla Gill who forced a turnover and beat the keeper one on one. Their second win fell into the Lakers hands against Wingate University. Another impressive performance from the defense and six saves from sophomore Kayla Desormeau helped the Lakers defeat Wingate.

3. Ancient History

Mercyhurst and the Huskies have a long history. They have played 20 times since 2005. Bloomsburg holds an all-time series lead over Mercyhurst 20-0. In the 2022 season, Bloomsburg now has an overall record of 5-4. In their last game (Sept. 2022), the Lakers were able to hold off their goal scoring until the second quarter.

4. Lakers Take on the Huskies

The last matchup the Lakers only fell to Bloomsburg 3-0. The game is still fresh on their minds considering it was only 11 days ago on September 27.
