Laker Rowing Has Strong Showing in Turn of the Bear

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Lakers make it back-to-back weeks in which they put together solid performances. After a successful outing in the Head of the Charles in Boston, Ma. Last weekend, the team turned around to take part in the Turn of the Bear with two top three finishes to their ledger.

How it Happened

Men's Fours were the first to compete, coming in fifth. The team competed against four other boats from Cornell with all four of them coming in front of the Laker quartet as Mercyhurst finished with a time of 15:43.5

Women's Eights were next to get in the water with them having another successful day. After winning gold in the Head of the Charles, the team claimed first place once again as they posted a time of 14:12.7 to come in front of two boats from William Smith.

The Lakers sent two boats out in the Men's Eights with one team placing third while the other came in 12th among the 19 competing teams.

Hear from the Coach

"It was a great event and Cornell were great hosts," said the Director of Rowing Adrian Spracklen "We raced well as team, and overall gave us some insight into what we need to do to be competitive in the spring."  Spracklen showed how happy he was with the work Mercyhurst Women's Rowing has done so far in the new campaign, saying "The women had another strong outing in the eight and caps a very successful fall campaign. We have some work do in the eights as we are not where we need to be, but have the winter to put things right. Overall it has been a great fall that has shown how we stack up. We will take a lighter week of training this week and evaluate where we are before starting winter training."

What's Next

The Lakers cap off their fall leg of the 2022-23 schedule with the Turn of the Bear and now eye the spring as they look to once again be one of the top programs.
