Reserve Women's Soccer Falls in Opener

Tonight's game saw a valiant Mercyhurst Women's Soccer reserve team fall just shy of victory against a very strong Westminster side who came out 2-0 winners eventually.

In what was a very even game tonight, the Lakers saw a large spell of possession in the first 20 minutes without really threatening the Westminster goal and nullified every attack the Titans tried to create.

After the opening 20 minutes the game opened up a little and Player of the Match freshmen Goalkeeper Kate Costantini pulled off some truly unbelievable saves to deny the Titans three times in the first half with the pick of the bunch a sprawling dive to the far right corner to get down to keep the scores even. From the resulting corner, the Titans managed to score to go into halftime 1-0 up.

As the second half began, the Lakers dominated possession and almost drew level with a shot from distance by Ali Tobin forcing the Titans goalkeeper to make a smart save to her right post.

It was end to end for the majority of the second half with both teams having chances to score; which saw the crowd respond enthusiastically.

Finally, the Titans ran out 2-0 winners overall, but both sets of coaches and players came off the field feeling positive about the game and proud of the performances.

Up next for the Lakers reserve team is Carlow at Saxon stadium on September 12th.
