BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Through two days of the ITA Regional Championship the Mercyhurst men's tennis team has posted a strong showing with a pair of doubles teams making their way to the semifinals.
The duo of Morris Haab and Hristo Plasheski advanced the with a 6-1 victory in their opening match. They followed that with a 6-4 decision and then used a 6-2 match to make their way to Monday's semifinals.
In the other half of the doubles bracket, David Akinpetide and Milan Jankovic opened with a first round bye before a hard-fought 7-6 victory to advance to the semifinals. Akinpetide and Jankovic eaned a 6-4 win to move to the semis.
Plasheski had a strong showing in the individual draw as well also making the B Singles semifinal. He opened play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ting-yu Yen. In the second round, Plasheski defeated Andrew Shand 7-5, 6-2. He dispatched Aiden Cashin 6-1, 6-1 before topping Robin Luetzig 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the semis where he will take on David Velayos.
Kiran Richard also showed well in the B Singles draw advancing to the quarterfinals.
In the main draw, Akinpetide won two matches to get to the round of 16 before bowing out. Morris Haab dropped his opening match, but battled back through the consolation draw winning a pair of matches to reach the consolation semifinals.
The Lakers wrap up play at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships on Monday.
