Men’s Soccer Sweeps Weekly PSAC West Awards

Lock Haven, Pa.—Both PSAC West Men's Soccer weekly honors were awarded to members of the Mercyhurst men's soccer team Monday.

Sidney Warden has received his third consecutive PSAC West Athlete of the Week honor while Jonathan Gomes was named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. This is also the second time this season that the Lakers earned both weekly awards.

Warden continued his offensive tear last week while helping the Lakers secure the PSAC West Regular Season Championship. The London, United Kingdom, native scored three goals in the team's two games, including two from the penalty spot.

He is now 7-for-7 from the spot and leads all of Division II with that total. He also sits tied for second in the nation with 18 total goals and 1.12 goals per game, and is the only player in the PSAC with a goals-per-game average over one.

Gomes locked things down in net for the Lakers in both games, recording a pair of clean sheets. His six shutouts have him tied for the top spot in the conference.

Gomes, a graduate student from Broward County, Florida, benefited from strong defense and saved all three on-target shots he faced during the week.
